Question: will my jasmine recover?
I bought a vase jasmine with a lot of flowers it was drying up I changed a vase with a bigger one but now it's a week without signs of recovery. The long branches are around an iron brace, perhaps a little rusty. What can I do?
Answer: cultivating ilsomino ilg
I believe that you have purchased a jasmine of the genus jasminum, which are commonly grown in pots in most of Italy, as they fear the winter cold and the most intense frosts a little. It is an evergreen climber, native to Asia, Australia and the Mediterranean area.
Despite being a fairly delicate plant, as far as winter lows are concerned, for the rest it is a vigorous and fairly "accommodating" climber, which tends to adapt to the conditions of the place where it is grown. There are few things he fears, but in general, especially in the case of jasmine grown in pots, it requires a little foresight with regard to watering: he prefers regular watering, but also tolerates drought quite well; therefore it is watered only when the ground is well dry, to avoid the onset of any type of rot.
If left too dry, a jasmine will tend to dry on the tips of the branches; if always left in a damp or wet soil, the roots will begin to suffocate, and rots will quickly develop, which can lead to the death of the entire plant. These plants love sunny positions, so often watering in the summer is not a problem, since even a large vase, if exposed to full sun for many hours a day, tends to dry out quite quickly.
These plants are evergreen, and therefore need watering even in winter, when the minimum temperatures are still above 5-8 ° C; those who work in the nursery know it well: one of the major causes of death of delicate plains, such as jasmine, bougainvillea, lumps, is drought in cool periods. This happens above all for the specimens that are grown in a cold greenhouse, or in the shelter of a terrace, where in addition to not being watered, they do not even receive water from atmospheric precipitation.
Therefore, it could simply be that your jasmine has not been watered in the period of greatest development; when a plant produces flowers it tends to use most of its energy to do so, if it is in this period that it is facing water stress or nutritional deficiencies, the answer is certainly rapid and tends to be quite serious. If the problems are due to lack of watering, it should recover quickly; if, on the other hand, the problem is due to excessive watering, in addition to having to water it less, it is important to provide a systemic fungicide, so as to try to heal the parts of the plant that are rotting.
