it is not difficult to grow vegetables, even if you only have a small piece of land. Clear that some precautions are necessary; first of all: the soil must be fertile and well-drained. Often around the houses there is a ground of poor quality, compacted by the years, or scarce landfill, which sinks only for about fifty centimeters, and rests directly on the residues of the construction site of the house, and therefore is located above broken bricks , cement scraps, stones, gravel. This type of soil is not suitable for cultivating anything, except perhaps weeds. Before preparing a vegetable garden, planting all sorts of plants, it is good to make sure that the soil in which they dwell is rich in humus and decomposing material, and is very soft and drained. To do this, it is usually sufficient to buy manure (or a farmer) in the nursery, spread it in a thin layer on the ground, and work well with a spade or a pitchfork, so as to break the clods and turn the ground. If we see that the soil is very clayey, and the clods are too compact (as if they were glued), then we also add some washed river sand (we find this in the building material stores). If we note that the ground, in addition to being clayey, has gravel and shards below, then it would be appropriate to add fresh and fertile soil as well. If you need a little, just a few bags of universal soil from the nursery, if instead we have to raise the ground of the garden by many centimeters, it will be appropriate to turn to an excavation company, or to a count, to buy large quantities of land. Having done this, we work the flowerbeds well, and after a few days, smooth them with a rake; at this point we are ready to plant the vegetables. But which vegetables?
Much depends on where we live: in areas with very hot summers, it is very difficult to obtain zucchini and salad in July; in areas with very cold winters, it is very difficult to obtain fennel in winter. If we have no desire or time to engage in reading manuals on the subject, we can choose vegetables according to an infallible practical method: let us go to the market of our city and forage which plants sell; surely they are the right ones for the period in which we find ourselves.
Once the plants are planted, let's water them. Watering in the garden should be given in the early hours of the morning or even in the evening (if we sleep or go to work in the morning); wet the soil thoroughly (the soil, not the leaves), and avoid watering if the soil is already wet or damp.
