A lawn with synthetic grass can be a valid solution for all those who wish not to have to waste too much time on maintenance of a "real" lawn, especially if it is very extensive. More and more often synthetic grass is in fact adopted as a solution also for private gardens.
What is synthetic grass
Synthetic grass was developed in the United States in the 1960s: the first uses of the new invention were in the sports field, as synthetic grass has the characteristic of being much more resistant than real grass. Its use is therefore very important in an environment where the field conditions must always be perfect. Not to mention the economic advantages: the use of artificial grass makes the maintenance costs of natural grass lawns superfluous.
Synthetic grass is made thanks to the use of plastic material which, especially in recent years, has become increasingly similar to natural grass. It retains all the characteristics such as softness and color, but eliminating any disadvantage.
For this reason, especially in recent times, the use of synthetic grass is spreading more and more even outside the sports field: for example, for private house gardens, swimming pools, public gardens and more .
When to choose a synthetic lawn
The synthetic lawn is undoubtedly recommended in all those situations in which it is not possible to deal with the best of a natural lawn. Not only because of the lack of time it takes to cut the grass (and we know that in the case of an extended garden, it can be a long operation), but also because the maintenance of a natural grass lawn requires the eradication of weeds , the administration of pesticides, pesticides and fungicides, without forgetting the fact that many times natural grass attracts mosquitoes and other types of insects and animals. A very serious problem, and that every year brings more and more people to choose artificial grass lawns, is that of hay allergies, which are felt especially in spring (and can be very annoying for those who live in close contact with the natural grass: of course, the use of synthetic grass is possible not only for large gardens, but also as the edge of a driveway, as a green area around the edges of a swimming pool, for small flowerbeds and other finishing touches. be taken into consideration even just to beautify some parts of our garden.
Advantages and disadvantages
Like everything, the use of a synthetic grass lawn obviously has advantages and disadvantages. Analyzing them carefully we can determine if the synthetic grass is the solution for us.
Synthetic grass has the great advantage of eliminating the problems that we have previously listed, also thanks to the fact that it dries quickly after the rain. It is usually thought that a synthetic lawn is harmful to the environment, but it is not so: nowadays, synthetic grass is made in full respect of the environment, with non-harmful and non-toxic materials. Indeed, the use of synthetic grass also guarantees lower water consumption for its maintenance and a lower quantity of toxic substances (such as pesticides) diffused in the environment.
Of course, synthetic grass also has disadvantages: the first is undoubtedly the loss of pigmentation caused after years of exposure to sunlight (the same phenomenon that can also be found in terrace and garden tents).
Another disadvantage is represented by wear: synthetic grass blades must be guaranteed in order to get up again after crushing, just like natural blades of grass. In this way, the difference will not be visible. Also in this case, it is probable that after years of installation, the grass has anyway been damaged.
