Anthracnose

Once the fungus is in action, it is necessary to act promptly to prevent the plant from perishing. The strategies are multiple, some ecological, others involve the use of chemical products:- As soon as you notice the symptoms of anthracnose, you must immediately cut the affected leaves, taking care to disinfect the scissors between cuts to avoid contaminating the other parts of the plant;- if it is a garden plant it would be preferable to eliminate it completely, to avoid contagion with other plants;- if the affected plant is a tree you can try during the colder seasons (autumn / winter) to prune the diseased branches and treat it with a fungicide product based on copper or sulfur; then burn the plant residues (branches, leaves, seeds, etc.) affected by the disease and treat the diseased plants with products containing copper oxychloride or sulfur to prevent the spores from overcoming the winter and attacking the plant again;- use of chemical products:- based on copper;- triazole products //www.castvivai.com/prodotto/41817/Domark%C2%AE-125-fungicida-triazolico-nella-nuova-formulation-CC-250.aspx- propiconazole //www.agrariagioiese.it/contents/it/p2685.html- dodine //www.agrimag.com/PA_scheda.asp?Codice=313- Cyprus 25 DF FUN 2 //www.cifo.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/741- Tri-Base FUN 5 //www.cifo.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/766- Propyflor //www.cifo.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/648- Vic 19 L FUN //www.cifo.it/flex/cm/pages/ServeBLOB.php/L/IT/IDPagina/356Anthracnose: HOW TO PREVENT ANTRACNOSIS: STRATEGIES

As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure, even because sometimes even treatment cannot be enough to save our plants. Prevention is therefore extremely important to prevent plants from getting sick, and there are different ways to do it, relying on natural or chemical methods:
- buy seeds or seedlings in specialized and reliable stores, making sure that they are in perfect health and not affected by malformations or diseases;
- make an accurate rotation of the soil, thus preventing spores from taking root in the hot-humid climate of the soil;
- avoid too dense sowing, to avoid the risk of infection;
- water the plants below the leaves so as not to weaken them and make them easy prey for mushrooms;
- make an accurate drainage of the water, avoiding water stagnation, excellent ground for the proliferation of fungi;
- for potted plants, to avoid stagnation, it is necessary to pierce the bottom at least at two points, then insert coarse material at the bottom (gravel, shards, etc.) proceeding gradually with more and more material until reaching the roots of the plant;
- prepare decoctions based on horsetail (go here for the recipe //nanodigiardino.wordpress.com/2011/05/12/il-decotto-di-equiseto/), known for its antifungal properties to spray on the plants
- use copper-based products, such as Ambienta® Fungicida mineral //www.zapiambienta.it/prodotti/prodotti.php?prodotto=ambienta-oidio-delle-piante&sz=&z=
For an inexperienced eye the stains produced by anthracnose could be confused with sun burns and therefore underestimate the dangerousness of this disease. When in doubt, always consult an expert on the subject.
